Pack the Pantry
I was recently thinking about the words in Matthew 25: “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?” “And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
In partnership with Hastings Evangelical Free Church, YFC stocked the food pantry shelves at Hastings Middle School with food and hygiene items. I was thinking of families that are food insecure, students who would be taking the food home, and what it would be like to not have food instantly available. What is life like for the teen taking that box of Franken Berry cereal home?
I was also thinking about a family we are investing in who live in an unsanitary home, struggle with addiction and getting their child to school, and have visits from the police and child protective services. Being in their home, building trust, and offering help has been a humbling experience for me.
I’m so grateful for the school staff who support our efforts and who walk side by side with these kids every day.
Would you please pray for these families, students and our team? That we would help in the right ways? That we would share the gospel clearly? That we would prioritize these families over our own health and comfort? Walking in faith through these situations is teaching us what having a servant heart truly looks like. By loving these students and families, I can only hope that we are feeding, welcoming, clothing, and visiting the King.
